Today’s Reading – Psalm 1 -2
Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do. (Psalms 1:1-3 NLT)
Today begins my reading of the book of Psalms. It seems intimidating at first knowing how long it is and going through it only two chapters at a time but one I am looking forward to begin.
Psalm 1 with ‘Blessed is the man.” We know that David wrote most of these. Was he referiing in verse one to himself or anybody? I think he was showing all of us that those who follow The Lord will be blessed. David was trying to tell us that he was not a secial guy. He was only special because God had blessed him and he was trying to follow God by knowing and obeying the Law.
Psalm 2 reflects David’s position as God’s anointed. The nations have no power over Israel becaue The Lord is in control. David notes here that Israel was to be an example to the other nations to follow The Lord.
Application to me: God blesses us when we obey Him. Obedience is a well that will nourish us like the tree planted by the stream. Not matter what the conditions are, we can prosper because we have an unlimited supply of grace from which to drink.
