Today’s Reading – Job 33-34
Elihu describes himself as a young man. We do not know how old he is, but we do know that is at least a generation younger than Job and his friends. They have taught him well. He has the same wrong understanding of God that they do. He continues the thinking that God is punishing Job for sin and God blesses those who are right with Him. They have tied material blessings and prosperity to God’s favor and there are no other explanations. God is also very angry and just looking for an opportunity to get back at sinners. Bad theology is passed down from one generation to the next.
Application to me – What am I passing on to the next generation that is not a right understanding of God? Something to consider as we think about how we shape our children’s and grandchildren’s understanding of God and spiritual foundation.
